According to a - perhaps more thorough, perhaps less biased - CP (Canadian Press News Service?), the three "peace activists" were freed by a military operation. Never attribute to a military operation what can be obscured by the passive voice and some vigorous handwaving, eh, AFP? Bah.

Later versions of the AFP report seem to have been merged with less-insane BBC and unknown (AP?) wire service reporting.
