The other day, he was giddy over the chance to become a martyr. Today, he's upset because the court sentence is "haram", un-Islamic. I think somebody pointed out to him that the various hareth say nothing about martyrdom, virgins and execution sentences. It's almost as if he's trying to make his case before Allah - "It's martyrdom if the judge isn't ruling sharia! I'm not actually guilty, despite having done what I stand accused of!"
